Women’s Golf Records Lowest Three-Round Score In Program History

first_img Results Story Links CORNVILLE, Ariz. – The Drake University women’s golf team had one of the best weekends in program history with a three-round team score of 886 to finish 11th at the Red Rocks Invitational. The team total was the lowest three-day total in program history.”I am so very proud of the ladies’ effort and execution this weekend,” said Drake head coach Rachael Pruett. “It would be very easy to make excuses about not being able to practice outside, and they never once complained about it. They trusted their hard work and went out and got it done.”The Bulldogs opened up play with an 11-over par 295 and an 18-over 302 on the first day. Saturday, the team returned to the course and proceeded to fire a 289, the lowest single round in program history by five strokes.”We were so close to the 18 hole school record in our first round and we knew we could get it Sunday,” Pruett added. “We did a good job of staying loose and told ourselves to ‘swing it and ding it.'”Haeri Lee paced the Bulldogs with a 3-over par 70-75-71–216 to tie for 17th overall in the individual standings. Her opening round tied for the second-lowest in program history as well as she fired a 1-under par 70 on the par-71, 5,919-yard track. She particularly enjoyed the back nine, going a total of 3-under on the final back nine over the three days.Kristen Giles tied for 44th with a nine-over par three day total of 76-73-73–222 while Grace Dunn carded a 76-78-72–226 to tie for 55th. Aimee Gerschke finished just behind with a 73-76-82–231.Lee, Giles and Gerschke’s low rounds were all career bests as well on the first day of action.”This weekend was a complete team effort with everyone contributing great rounds to our team total,” Pruett said. “We will keep this momentum going forward as we get a few days of practice before Bradley.” New Mexico State won the event with a three-round 1-over par three-round score of 853.
