first_imgThe Chairperson of Fine Gael’s Border Forum has said that the Northern Ireland Assembly to be elected over this weekend must be the key driver of an all-island and British-Irish agenda for economic recovery.Wishing all candidates good luck ahead of the Northern Ireland Assembly election counts, Joe McHugh TD (Chairperson Fine Gael Border Forum) said: “Northern Ireland’s institutions (Strand I of the Good Friday Agreement) have been established and consolidated. Now, thirteen years on from 1998, North-South linkages (Strand II) and British-Irish linkages (Strand III) must be meaningfully developed.“Britain, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland are all in deep recession. We must pool resources and work together, and Strands II & III of the Good Friday Agreement provide the basis for such collaboration.
