Apparently the drug cargo was going to Barcelona (Spain) and was hidden in a liquid state in about 600 tanks mixed with molasses. The Commander of the Guayas, Col. Gonzalo Cabezas, explained that they are still verifying the drug cargo seized and the amount could increase to 21 tons, and did not deny that the police may arrest more people. According to information provided by the chain Telecentro, two Russian businessmen, while preparing the drug operation, were alleged to have been in contact with an Ecuadorian food company that would have provided the molasses in which the cocaine was hidden. Cabezas said that the cocaine seizure is the result of an operation launched several months ago and they are still working to unravel all the details of the operation, which will be made public in the coming hours.
