Ecosse Bags Offshore Wind Farm Boulder Contract

first_imgEcosse Subsea Systems (ESS) has mobilized the Noordhoek Pathfinder to support seabed clearance work for a wind farm project located offshore north-west England.ESS will utilize boulder grab equipment to remove an estimated 1700 boulders located over a 135 km route in water depths of up to 60 meters. The boulder grab spread will be used for displacing obstacles nearshore and in low density areas and will complement other seabed clearance operations being performed using ESS’s own SCAR2 seabed system.A survey spread onboard the vessel will also provide the unnamed client with data showing the target boulders prior to displacement and final positions after removal from the seabed corridor.ESS operations director, Mo Petrie said: “By combining the use of our own SCAR2 system and managing the boulder grabbing phase, we are able to offer the client the most cost-effective and time efficient option for a safe and environmentally friendly clearance of the seabed, while also minimizing disruption to the critical path of the overall project.“The performance experienced so far underlines our capabilities in dealing with boulders issues on behalf of clients.”last_img read more

Dortmund host Hertha, Bayern out to build on recovery

first_imgDortmund are three points clear at the top of the league, and four points ahead of fourth-placed Bayern Munich. The champions are still searching for their best form, with Mats Hummels complaining of “fundamental problems” in midweek.Elsewhere, Borussia Moenchengladbach striker Alassane Plea will be seeking to write himself into the record books against Freiburg on Friday, while Schalke and Bayer Leverkusen remain mired in the early-season blues. Here are five things to look out for in the Bundesliga this weekend:Dazzling DortmundLeague leaders Dortmund are in such superb shape that some are already casting them as title favourites ahead of Saturday’s tough clash with Hertha Berlin.Lucien Favre’s team have drawn comparisons with the Jurgen Klopp-era Dortmund, and it is easy to see why after six thumping wins in a row.Dortmund have scored 26 goals in their last six games, with super-subs Sancho and Paco Alcacer doing much of the damage.“Lucien Favre gives you the feeling that you belong, even when you don’t make the team,” explained midfielder Thomas Delaney this week. “He really gets the right balance.”Both Alcacer and Delaney are doubts for Saturday’s game.Bayern far from their bestMats Hummels has said that Bayern Munich still have “fundamental” problems to deal with, as the champions look to continue their mini-recovery away to Mainz on Saturday.Bayern had failed to win four games in a row before last weekend, and despite victories over Wolfsburg and AEK Athens since then, Hummels insisted they are not out of the woods yet.“We keep giving the ball away too easily in defence or playing unnecessary long balls,” said Hummels.Plea eyes recordAlassane Plea could equal a Bundesliga record if he gets on the scoresheet during Borussia Moenchengladbach’s trip to Freiburg. With Bayern languishing in fourth, high-flying Gladbach are the ones keeping the heat on Dortmund in second, and much of that is down to the French striker.Plea has scored eight goals in nine games this season, and could become only the third player to score a goal in each of his first five Bundesliga away games if he scores on Friday, following Steffen Baumgart and Serge Gnabry.“I’ve had a very good start,” Plea told Bild. “As a striker, it is always good to be scoring goals.”Schalke out to end droughtSchalke are out to end their crippling goal drought away to big-hitters RB Leipzig on Sunday.Domenico Tedesco’s side have scored just five goals in eight league games this season, and failed to take any of their 17 chances in a 0-0 draw with Galatasaray on Wednesday.Their poor conversion rate sees last year’s runners-up stuck in the relegation play-off place, just a point off the bottom of the table.“We need a result if we are going to start climbing up the table,” said Tedesco on Wednesday. “This phase can’t go on forever.”Herrlich on the brinkBayer Leverkusen are another big Bundesliga club in trouble, as coach Heiko Herrlich fights to save his job.Leverkusen have only two wins from their first eight games, and rumours that Herrlich is heading for the chop were exacerbated this week when Kicker reported that the club had been in contact with former RB Leipzig coach Ralph Hasenhuettl.Herrlich and his team face a tough task on Sunday, coming off the back of a Europa League tie to face a confident Werder Bremen side who are punching above their weight in third place.German league fixturesFridayFreiburg v Borussia Moenchengladbach (10:30pm)SaturdayBorussia Dortmund v Hertha Berlin, Hanover v Augsburg, Mainz v Bayern Munich, Fortuna Duesseldorf v Wolfsburg (4:30pm), Hoffenheim v Stuttgart (1630)SundayNuremberg v Frankfurt (2:30pm), RB Leipzig v Schalke (4:30pm), Werder Bremen v Bayer Leverkusen (7pm)0Shares0000(Visited 1 times, 1 visits today) 0Shares0000Jadon Sancho has played a crucial part of Dortmund’s success © dpa/AFP / Bernd ThissenBERLIN, Germany, Oct 26 – Jadon Sancho will be looking to maintain his perfect record for rampant Borussia Dortmund on Saturday when the in-form Bundesliga leaders host top-six rivals Hertha Berlin. After Wednesday’s 4-0 thrashing of Atletico Madrid, Dortmund have now won six games in a row, and Sancho has chalked up either a goal or an assist in each of those wins.last_img read more

Warriors, Rockets coaches: Can we shut up and play basketball again?

first_imgOAKLAND — Steve Kerr and Mike D’Antoni agreed on one thing prior to Game 2 of the Western Conference semifinals between the Warriors and Rockets. Both coaches were ready for a new storyline after two days of seemingly constant dissecting of the way Game 1 was officiated.“That’s the story right now,” Kerr said. “The good thing is we play at 7:30 and there’ll be a new story, hopefully.”“I’m worried about the game. I’m not worried about that stuff,” D’Antoni added. “In every series that happens. …last_img read more

Techmeme Opens the Door to Twitter Commentary by Select People

first_imgA Web Developer’s New Best Friend is the AI Wai… Why Tech Companies Need Simpler Terms of Servic… marshall kirkpatrick Technology news aggregator Techmeme sent an email today to a select group of readers it has put on a whitelist of Twitter users whose short commentary about news of the day will appear automatically on the site. Techmeme has been a trailblazer in news technology for years and today’s experiment is something other media outlets would likely love to implement in the future as well. Site founder Gabe Rivera downplayed the news in a conversation with me, but I think it’s a big deal. The leading technology industry news aggregator continues to move from nearly 100% automated link analysis at its birth five years ago, to half-human assisted with the hiring first of Megan McCarthy two years ago and later a team of editors and now this – a direct line to add smart quips to clusters of highlighted, long-form coverage of news events. Techmeme announced the initial inclusion of Twitter messages at the end of January. Rivera’s email to whitelisted Tweeters (including myself, at least until I reported on this) included the following instructions:Please be smart and insightful if you take advantage of this. Something more than just snark. (Though snark combined with insightful is fine!)Short version: If you tweet something and include a Techmeme permalink, your tweet *will* appear in “Discussion” under the headline you’ve linked, because your Twitter account is on our whitelist!Rivera emphasized in conversation that it wasn’t just the whitelisted community members whose Tweets would appear on the site and that the ranking of all topical Twitter messages is something he’s experimenting with. The site has faced allegations of elitism and favoritism since the day it launched and critics will undoubtedly see more of the same in this new experiment. Fans far outnumber critics of the site, though, and between Techmeme’s cold-hearted algorithm and its “librarians on speed” beneficent editors, I think the mix of coverage there works out quite well. The formula developed on Techmeme has been spun out into other sites on other topics, most notably Mediagazer, a site aggregating coverage of media industry news. Techmeme’s first hire, Megan McCarthy, now edits Mediagazer. Former ReadWriteWeb reporter Lidija Davis is Techmeme’s lead editor durring the US daytime. The site now has a staff of six humans, working beside computer scientist Rivera’s much-refined news discovery and ranking machine.Imagine This EverywhereAbove: Al Jazeera’s live coverage of the uprising in Egypt included highlighted Tweets from US political leaders. The press loves to pounce on the Twitter updates of well-known people in all kinds of fields, from Hollywood to US foreign policy. Imagine if other media outlets created a direct pipeline for those people to post their comments on coverage directly to the coverage itself! Might the front page of The New York Times someday include an appended quote like: “This article gives too much credit to the Republican party’s strategic thinking.” – @BarackObama.Probably not. But other media outlets are sure to take steps like Techmeme has today to capture and incorporate the most glamorous of User Generated Content into their own output. More likely than requiring a permalink to coverage, as Techmeme does of tech geek Twitter users whose personal brand audiences are generally smaller than the aggregator’s is, other sites will use keyword matching in filtering Tweets from the stars of stage, screen and industry. It’s a compelling value proposition for readers. Can the whitelisted Twitter users deliver? It’s a risk, but smart move by Techmeme – and something we’re sure to see variations on elsewhere in the future. 8 Best WordPress Hosting Solutions on the Marketcenter_img Tags:#New Media#news#web Top Reasons to Go With Managed WordPress Hosting Related Posts last_img read more

Photo: Chad Kelly Calls Time Spent With Kids In Haiti “A Blessing”

first_imgChad Kelly takes photo with kids in Haiti.IG/chadkelly_10It has been a very interesting year for new Ole Miss quarterback Chad Kelly. The former blue-chip prospect was kicked off of the team at Clemson in June, went to junior college and committed to Ole Miss in December, and got into hot water after a bar fight in Buffalo. Ole Miss stuck with the talented quarterback, however, and this week head coach Hugh Freeze brought him on a mission trip to Haiti. To Kelly’s credit, he seems to be getting a lot out of the experience.Hopefully Kelly has turned over a new leaf after a very trying 2014. If he pans out on and off the field, it could be a coup for the Rebels.last_img read more
